Satish Chandra is a famous historian. He was Professor of History at Jawaharlal Nehru University. Vice-Chairman and then Chairman of the University Grants Commission (1972-81). He taught at Allahabad University, Aligarh Muslim University, Delhi and Rajasthan. Visiting Professor (1971) at the University of Cambridge (London), Secretary of the Indian History Congress and later its President: Member of the Council of the United Nations University, Tokyo. Apart from this, he was associated with many national and international organizations. He wrote many history books and edited many books. He has been the Vice President of Society for Indian Ocean Studies, New Delhi, having published his research articles in a large number of International and National Journals.
